At Hackley Hospital, we strive to improve the health of the community by providing quality healthcare to every one who walks through our doors - every single day. We also demonstrate our commitment to the community health by partnering with local charitable organizations; by providing outreach programs like Language Services and support groups; and by supporting the members of our management team who serve on boards and committees throughout the community.
Community Partnerships
Hackley Hospital provides financial support to these agencies, which reach out to individuals in need.
- United Way - Hackley Health raised over $110,000 to support the United Way in 2005. We are proud to be one of the top 15 workplace campaigns helping United Way raise over $2.5 million for distribution to 24 Muskegon County non-profit agencies. unitedwaylakeshore.org
- Low Income Pharmacy - Jointly funded by Hackley Hospital and Mercy General Health Partners and managed by Catholic Social Services, the Low Income Pharmacy provides prescription medication and medical supplies to families and individuals based on income guidelines. dioceseofgrandrapids.org
- Call-211 - Connecting the community to information about referrals for human services to meet every day needs or crisis situations. In addition to financially supporting CALL-211, Hackley Hospital is proud to have management staff serving on the board. www.call-211.org
- Senior Transport, American Red Cross - This free service is offered to seniors living on a limited income providing door-to-door transportation to and from medical appointments.arcmon.org
- Sacred Suds Mission - This McLaughlin neighborhood non-profit center reaches out to neighbors in need offering free laundry and shower facilities as well as other special programs such as English as a Second Language classes, a Computer Center and social service referrals. sacredsuds.rinsema-sybenga.com
- healthCARE - This grassroots health advocacy and service agency based in Muskegon Heights is affiliated with over 25 local church congregations, primarily serving inner city and lower income populations. A program coordinator (LPN) oversees a network of lay health advocates based in these churches. A number of health-related support groups and classes are held at the churches, as well as health screenings for more than 8,500 persons annually.
- Tobacco Free - The Muskegon County Health Department conducts tobacco cessation seminars during the year to help community members build a successful plan to stop smoking. Cost of the four-part seminar is $65, but Hackley Hospital funds a scholarship program making the program available to those who are unable to afford the fee. Community Involvement
Members of the Hackley Hospital Management Team serve on boards throughout our community, offering their time and special expertise to extend the hospital mission and improve the community health. Community board services includes:
Call 211, Professional Med Team, Hackley VNS & Hospice, Hackley Community Care Center, Boy Scouts of America, Child & Family Services, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center, Neighborhood Investment Corporation, Muskegon County Diversity Committee, Institute for Healing Racism, Bethany Housing Ministries, Muskegon County Medical Control Authority, Low Income Pharmacy, Muskegon County Museum, Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana, Muskegon Community Health Project, Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce, Access Health, and West Michigan Self-Housing.
In addition to board service, Hackley Management Team members are also involved in a variety of community committees that include:
Baker College Marketing & Management Advisory Board, Grand Valley State University Social Work program, Paws with a Cause, Muskegon Community College Respiratory Therapy Advisory Board, Muskegon Community Health Project Dental Coalition, Muskegon Community Health Project Health Information Technology group, and the Baker College EMS Advisory Board.
Community Outreach
Hackley Hospital offers a number of programs and services designed to reach out, to promote education or to bring people together.
- Support groups - Led by Hackley Hospital staff, our support groups aid in recovery and promote education and better health. Admission to all support groups is free. View all Hackley Hospital support groups.
- Lunch with a Doctor - What better way to learn the latest in health information than to hear it from a physician? Lunch With A Doctor is a once-a-month program (September through June) and covers topics from heart disease and diabetes to hypertension and back pain. Check our Health Resources section for the current schedule. Admission to Lunch with a Doctor is free.
- Health Fairs and Screening Days - Our health fairs and screening days offer a wide range of demonstrations, activities and health information from across the entire Hackley Health system. Check the schedule on our Health Resources page.
- Language Services - Part of superior quality, personal care is effective communication between the patient and the medical team. When the parties involved speak different languages, it can be difficult and frustrating. Hackley Language Services department offers on-site Spanish language interpreters and over-the-phone interpretation of more than 150 languages 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as well as QAIII certified sign language interpreters. - Hackley Healthy Steps - This 12-week walking program is powered by Hackley Healthy Life, a comprehensive weight and lifestyle management program for healthy living and lifetime success. Healthy Steps will teach you the skills needed to stick with a walking program and youÍll have a dedicated exercise specialist to guide you every step of the way.
