HACKLEY HOSPITAL CANCER CENTER OFFERS FIVE-DAYBREAST CANCER TREATMENT

The Cancer Center at Hackley Hospital now offers Mammosite, an advanced targeted treatment option for women with early stage breastcancer. Breast conservation therapy is a short-term outpatient radiation treatment thatallows women quicker recovery and less invasive radiation to healthy tissue following a lumpectomy.

Hackley Hospital is honored for embracing quality improvement initiatives to advance health care along the lakeshore. This is the third year that Hackley Hospital has received the Governor’s Award of Excellence.
HACKLEY HOSPITAL ICU RECEIVES NATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN PATIENT SAFETY AWARD

Hackley Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has received the 2006 Baxter Excellence in Patient Safety Award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). Hackley Hospital ICU is one of three intensive care units in the nation to be recognized for patient care teams that have made significant contributions toward patient and caregiver safety in acute and critical care.
This Award recognizes the ICU team for its achievements made through innovative approaches for patient safety and quality of care. Key to the Hackley ICU success was active collaboration among team members supported by evidence-based outcomes for improvements. Specific initiatives introduced in the Hackley Hospital ICU included extensive infection prevention measures and new internal communication practices designed to better coordinate care and improve communication among all patient caregivers.

NEW RADIATION TECHNOLOGY - PROSTATE SEED IMPLANTS USED FOR CANCER TREATMENT

MIKE BRAID RECEIVES “DISTINGUISHED ATHLETIC TRAINER” AWARD

Hackley Hospital Sports Medicine Coordinator, Mike Braid has received the “2006 Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award” in recognition of his exceptional and unique contributions to the profession of athletic training. He is one of two individuals to receive this prestigious award from the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society. Braid, a certified athletic trainer, leads the Athletic Training and Community Outreach Program at Hackley Hospital.
HACKLEY HOSPITAL CANCER CENTER RECEIVES DONATION FROM LAWMEN MOTORCYCLE CLUB

Hackley Hospital has received a donation from the Muskegon Lawmen Motorcycle Club for its Cancer Center.
Law enforcement officers from the City of Muskegon and Muskegon
Heights, Muskegon Township, County of Muskegon and State Police
presented a $2,800 donation, which will be used to support women served
at Hackley's Cancer Treatment Center.
HACKLEY HOSPITAL PURCHASES INNOVATIVE ROBOTIC SURGICAL SYSTEMS

Hackley Hospital has purchased the da Vinci® Surgical System, the latest
advancement in robotic surgical technology. Hackley Hospital is the only healthcare
system along the lakeshore to offer this most advanced surgical support system
and one of the first in the nation with the newest da Vinci model.
The da Vinci® Surgical System expands a surgeon’s technical capabilities and provides patients with a minimally invasive surgical option for many complex procedures. While the System has multi-specialty applications, Hackley Hospital will initially launch this new technology for Prostatectomy (prostate) surgery beginning in spring 2006.

Hackley Hospital opens a major new multispecialty
health care facility, Hackley Health at the Lakes on Tuesday, January 17,
2006. The medical facility will offer a broad range of patient-centered services at a
convenient and easily accessible location. Hackley Health at the Lakes is an outpatient
facility located in southern Muskegon County off Harvey Street between Sternberg and
Pontaluna Roads.
